Office to Advance Women, Equity, and Diversity

 
Council for the Advancement of Women and Minority Faculty
 
Provost Kenneth Furton established the Council for the Advancement of Women and Minority Faculty in June 2015 by in response to a request from women faculty that originated from faculty attending the FIU Women Faculty Leadership Institute.
 
Dr. Yesim Darici was the founding Chair of the Council. Members included: Dr. Joyce Peterson (History), Dr. Kathleen Wilson (Chair, Faculty Senate; Music), Dr. Cheryl Brewster (Medicine), and Dr. Jennifer Richards (Biological Sciences).
 
The Council was effective in championing the establishment of the Office to Advance Women, Equity & Diversity that became official in October 2015 with the appointment of Dr. Suzanna Rose as Associate Provost to lead the new office.
 
The Council meets once per semester to continue to play a role as an advisory board to the Office to Advance Women, Equity & Diversity.
