New Faculty Resources

Welcome to FIU! Here new faculty can find the necessary resources and checklists needed to get acclimated and refer to the Faculty Handbook, which provides information about other resources, including general university principles and practices.

New Faculty Orientation

We look forward to meeting you at New Faculty Orientation on August 20th, 2024, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at CBC 233 and August 21st, 2024, from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at GC 355. You'll learn about the FIU culture, meet our top leadership and receive important information and resources.

Faculty Checklist

See our New Faculty Checklist to help you keep track of all necessary tasks new faculty must complete during their first year at FIU.

Office Keys

For access to specific offices or buildings, you must initiate a request through Key Control to obtain the necessary keys and building access. Your department's support staff can assist you with this task. If your key is requested by August 2nd, you will be able to pick up your key at New Faculty Orientation.

Teaching and Learning Support for Faculty

Several FIU units offer opportunities to enhance teaching and/or engage with colleagues in discussions about learning and instruction, such as the Center for the Advancement of Teaching, the Office of Global Learning Initiatives, the STEM Transformation Institute, and Writing across the Curriculum.

For a complete list of support units, see the Faculty Resource Sheet.

Textbook Adoptions

Course instructors must report required and recommended textbook/course materials by entering course material information in Adoption & Insight Portal no later than 45 days before each semester.

Should you not require or recommend any course materials for purchase, you must also report that via the Adoption and Insight Portal system. Contact your departmental staff if you have questions.

The Barnes & Noble support team will also be able to assist you. You can reach them at fiubook@fiu.edu or 305-348-3923 and 305-348-3924.

PantherSoft

The PantherSoft system, or my.fiu.edu, is the online platform for accessing the information on your classes (classroom assignment, roster, grade recording) and employee self-services (payroll, time reporting, benefits, and updates to personal data).

FIU Libraries

The FIU Libraries are valuable resources for faculty. Each specific discipline has a library liaison whose role is to orient you to the many services and resources to assist you in your teaching and scholarly activities.

Family Resources

For children ages 2 to 5, the Children's Creative Learning Center is a nationally accredited educational preschool on the MMC campus.
