Institutional Effectiveness

The Institutional Effectiveness team within Academic Planning and Accountability advances a culture of evidence and continuous improvement by partnering with faculty and staff to collect, analyze, and apply data-driven strategies to enhance student learning, student success, and institutional performance across curricular, co-curricular, programmatic, and administrative environments.

The team provides institutional leadership for assessment, planning, and continuous improvement; oversees the university-wide competencies assessment process; and maintains FIU's Institutional Learning and Administrative Outcomes framework as the institutional structure for labeling and analyzing student learning, program, and administrative outcomes. Through this framework, student learning outcomes are mapped to Institutional Learning Outcome domains and competencies, while program and administrative outcomes are mapped to Administrative Outcome domains and outcome areas.

The team supports implementation through the assessment management and reporting platform, assessment frameworks and guidelines, workshops, outcome mapping, dashboard development, stakeholder review, data validation, and institutional assessment best practices. This website serves as a centralized hub for these resources, helping ensure that assessment evidence is transparent, comparable, and useful for program review, data-informed decision-making, and continuous improvement.

Institutional Learning and Administrative Outcomes Framework (ILAO)

Brief framework overview: FIU's Institutional Learning and Administrative Outcomes framework provides a shared structure for organizing, labeling, analyzing, and reporting assessment outcomes across academic, programmatic, and administrative areas. The student learning branch groups outcomes by Institutional Learning Outcome domains and competencies, while the administrative branch groups program and administrative outcomes by Administrative Domains and Outcome Areas. Together, these classifications support consistent outcome mapping, cross-unit analysis, dashboard reporting, stakeholder validation, accreditation readiness, and continuous improvement.

Use this section to provide a short summary of the framework for website visitors, including what the framework is, how it is used in the competencies assessment process, and how it supports transparent, comparable, and actionable assessment evidence.

    Framework Areas

The framework organizes assessment outcomes into two connected classification systems. The Institutional Learning Outcome areas describe student learning competencies that may be demonstrated through curricular, co-curricular, and program-level evidence. The Program and Administrative Outcome areas describe operational, service, student success, workforce, organizational, and public-impact outcomes that can be assessed across academic and administrative units.
